The Ranger Creed is the foundation of the Ranger ethos. You will recite it every single day. This course breaks down each stanza, teaches memorization techniques, and tests your recall.
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier, who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger, my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight, and I will shoulder more than my share of the task, whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.
"Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of the Rangers."
Key Theme: Voluntary Service & Pride
You chose this. Nobody forced you to be here. This stanza establishes personal accountability — you knew what you were signing up for, and you commit to upholding the standard of those who came before you. "Esprit de corps" means the common spirit of the unit — pride, fellowship, and loyalty to the Regiment.
Memory Anchor: Think "I CHOSE this" — voluntary, hazards, prestige.
"Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier, who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger, my country expects me to move further, faster, and fight harder than any other soldier."
Key Theme: Higher Standard
Rangers are held to a higher standard than conventional forces. "Cutting edge of battle" — Rangers are first in. "Land, sea, or air" — Rangers are multi-domain. The expectation is clear: further, faster, harder. No excuses.
Memory Anchor: Think "ELITE — further, faster, harder" — the three pillars.
"Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight, and I will shoulder more than my share of the task, whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some."
Key Theme: Teamwork & Self-Discipline
The three pillars: mentally alert, physically strong, morally straight. This is about never being the weak link. "One hundred percent and then some" — always give more than what's asked. Your Ranger buddy depends on you.
Memory Anchor: Think "NEVER FAIL — mind, body, morals — 100% and then some."
"Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress, and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow."
Key Theme: Professionalism & Standards
"Gallantly" — with bravery and show. This stanza is about professional appearance and conduct. Rangers set the example in everything: how they dress, how they maintain gear, how they address leaders. The standard is the standard.
Memory Anchor: Think "SET THE EXAMPLE — courtesy, dress, equipment."
"Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country."
Key Theme: Combat Ethos & Loyalty
This is the warrior stanza. Three commitments: fight with everything you have, never surrender, never leave a fallen comrade. "Under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country" — your conduct reflects on every Ranger who came before you.
Memory Anchor: Think "FIGHT — no surrender, no man left behind, no embarrassment."
"Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor."
Key Theme: Guts & Mission Completion
"Intestinal fortitude" — guts, courage, the will to keep going when everything says stop. Even alone, you complete the mission. This is the essence of what makes a Ranger: the refusal to quit.
Memory Anchor: Think "GUTS — lone survivor — complete the mission."
