Prerequisites, course standards, and grading criteria for the Jumpmaster Course.
The Jumpmaster Course requires candidates to be airborne-qualified with significant jump experience. This is not an entry-level course — students must arrive with a strong foundation in parachute operations and demonstrate readiness for advanced airborne responsibilities.
| Requirement | Standard | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Airborne Qualification | Required | Must hold Basic Parachutist Badge or higher |
| Static-Line Jumps | 12 minimum | Documented jump log required |
| Rank | E-4+ / O-1+ | Must be in leadership position or airborne billet |
| Commander Endorsement | Required | Unit commander recommendation |
The Jumpmaster Course uses a combination of written exams and practical evaluations. Written exams require a minimum 70% to pass. Practical JMPI evaluations are graded on the ability to detect all major deficiencies within the time standard — there is zero tolerance for missed deficiencies that could endanger a jumper.
The Practical Phase (JMPI) eliminates the most candidates. Students inspect rigged jumpers with deliberate faults inserted. Missing a major deficiency or false-calling a properly rigged jumper results in a NO-GO. Accumulated NO-GOs lead to course dismissal with no recycle option for integrity violations.
