Air Assault School uses a GO/NO-GO grading system for both written and practical evaluations. Each phase concludes with graded events that must be passed before advancing. Written exams require a minimum 70% score; practical events are strictly GO/NO-GO.
There is zero tolerance for safety violations during sling-load and rappelling operations. A single NO-GO on any graded event results in elimination from the course — there are no retests. This zero-defect standard, combined with the physical demands, drives the approximately 50% attrition rate.
